How to Clean a DVD Player

dvd player

The Japanese have been kicking our butts technologically for a few decades now. In 1982, the Sony corporation released the very first CD player: the CDP-101. It sold for about $900. Then, 14 years later, the Sony corporation would come out with a new product: the DVD player. The Sony DVP-S7000 was built in Terre-Haute, Indiana, and sold for $970. Well, now it’s 2010, and I am using a DVD player I bought five years ago for $90 at Target. And it is a Sony. I keep it real. And to this day I have never once considered cleaning it. It has performed well. The reason I bought it was so I could watch movies and also listen to music. You see the DVD player played CDs better than the CD player would. If a scratched CD wouldn’t play on the CD player, there was a good chance it would play on the DVD player. Now, in the digital age, this sort of information is rather useless. No one listens to CDs anymore. And, in the not too distant future, no one will watch DVDs either. But until then at least we will be able to clean the DVD players.

How to Clean a Wrist Watch

Wrist watch

Many people think that wearing a wristwatch is old fashioned, especially these days when everyone has a cell phone. As for me, I never wore one because I could never find one that I liked. That was until I got older. It was then that I realized I had just been looking in the wrong place. For pretty much everything. I had a friend who worked at a jewelry shop, and it was at this jewelry shop that I saw the first watch I had ever coveted. It was expensive, even with the Friends & Family Discount. But, you see, I have expensive taste, but it’s not like it was a Rolex or anything. Regardless, I caught a lot of grief from my parents. It’s funny how your parents can still say something to you that makes you feel like a little kid. Maybe not funny ha ha, but funny sad. Anyway The best way to clean a watch is going to begin with reading my article so get to it.

How to Clean a Bolt-Action Rifle

bolt-action rifle

They say that nothing can beat bolt-action rifles for accuracy. But for what they lack in accuracy, semi-automatic rifles make up in sheer number of bullets fired. But, as my father and perhaps your father told you, “If you make the first one count, you won’t need a second.” My dad also told me “bullets aren’t free.” That is especially true these days as the price of bullets has gone way up. I thought my dad had lost it when I saw the thousands of rounds he has stockpiled around the property. But I can see his point. Sorta. At least I will know where to go when the zombie apocalypse is upon us. Read the full article “How to Clean a Bolt-Action Rifle

How to Clean a Pump-Action Shotgun

pump-action shotgun

The pump-action shotgun is perhaps one of the coolest guns ever. The only exception may be the sawed off, but those aren’t always exactly legal. The pump is one of the guns that I would definitely want to have when it comes time for the zombie apocalypse. It is versatile and extremely effective at relieving zombies of their brains. Of course I would also want a couple of pistols and a bat, but I think I’m getting off subject. There are other uses for pump shotguns, like hunting birds, which is fun and rewarding. Duck is a tasty critter. But one often overlooked component of shotgun ownership is cleaning it at regular intervals, primarily when it’s been fired. This article attempts to break down shotgun cleaning into 8 steps, which include tips on the most useful tools to use. Gun cleaning is quite simple with the proper tools. In fact, it only takes a few minutes to fully clean your gun. Continue reading and see for yourself.

How to Clean a Lever-Action Rifle

lever-action rifle

I have been using the lever-action Marlin 30-30 for 15 years now, and it is still in great shape as you will see from the pictures - once you read the article. I don’t know if it’s just my gun, but these puppies are heavy. I got my first 30-06 this year and that thing is way lighter than this. I think it’s the weight of this gun that appeals to me. Its projectile will plow through brush, whereas it seems the 30-06 can be deflected by the tiniest things, like a leaf for example. But they are both tools, both with an intended purpose, and both must be clean in order to perform properly, so let’s get to cleaning the lever-actioned rifle

How to Clean a Double-Barreled Shotgun

Cleaning a shotgun is an often overlooked simple procedure that can add life to your weapon. You should clean your shotgun each time you fire it. If you put the gun away without cleaning and oiling it, you run the risk of developing rust on your gun. The double-barreled shotgun is the easiest shotgun to disassemble and clean. It breaks into three basic pieces. And if you have the proper cleaning equipment, you will be able to fully clean and oil your gun in a few minutes—a few minutes that may add a few years to your weapon’s life. How to Clean Your Bedroom

clean room

Nothing can bring me back to my childhood quicker than the phrase “clean your room.” As children, cleaning our rooms is just about the worst thing our parents can ask us to do, save brushing our teeth or taking a bath. Why do children hate to do these things? Is it simply because these tasks are not fun? Maybe, or perhaps it truly is a rare and pure form of torture that only children are aware of, the pain of which is numbed with time. I still hate cleaning. But now, I also enjoy the benefits of walking barefoot around my house without getting little bits of shit stuck to them. And I have cats. When I vacuum, I enter into a Zen-like trance and I transcend my conscious reality. Especially when I chase the cats around with the vacuum cleaner. My point is that cleaning your room will most likely never be all that fun. Like an irritating family member, cleaning must be entertained frequently enough to keep up appearances. That doesn’t mean we have to enjoy it. But we should try. If you choose to continue reading this article, I think you will find the advice helpful and perhaps a little humorous. Especially the part about your mom.

How to Clean Vinyl Records

When I was born, vinyl albums were still popular but, they were beginning to phase out with the advent of the 8-track. Which was quickly followed by the cassette tape. I always felt like I missed out on something really special. Growing up in relative isolation I listened to my parents vinyl collection frequently. So the first Beatles, Dylan and Young albums I listened to were on vinyl. Which for someone who grew up predominately in the 90’s, is pretty damn good. Well anyway, in college I started to collect my own vinyls and so had a nice vintage collection. To spin my albums I was using whatever garage sale player I could find. I had been through a couple of them by the time I purchased my first Stanton direct drive turntable. I never looked back. SO anyway you should start collecting vinyl and when you need to clean them. Read my article How to Clean Vinyl Records. Happy hunting.

How to Clean a Camera

Dust is the main cause of most camera dirt-related issues. There are a few things that you can do at home to get rid of the dust inside your camera. The following steps are simple and safe for your camera. If they are not enough to get rid of the dust, you should have it professionally cleaned. If you use a digital camera, never ever try to directly clean your sensor with anything other than a manual squeeze bulb. Anything else will scratch or possibly even break it. The camera I use in this example is a Canon 5D, a digital SLR. But you should be able to use this advice to clean any type of camera. read the full article How to Clean a Camera.

How to Clean a Tub

When I was first transforming into a clean person, I assigned value to the cleanliness of each part of my home based upon the frequency it would be viewed by others. The living room and the kitchen were most important. Next was the toilet, then came my bedroom, and lastly the shower/bathtub. I rarely cleaned the bathtub because unless my guests were staying over, they would almost never see it. It is kind of embarrassing, but I still clean according to this philosophy. And if someone is coming to stay, I usually do a once-over on the whole apartment. Unfortunately, letting the tub go a few months before cleaning it can lead to some pretty intense filth. But I have found an easy, cheap, and earth-friendly way to clean the tub. I have described my technique in my article How to Clean a Tub. And for those of you who are disputing my statement of cleaning not being any fun, you are deranged. If cleaning is so fun, then come clean my house. Oh you don’t want to? Ha. I say ha, sir.
