How to Clean Glass

When was a kid, I used to want to be a window washer - the kind that rappels like a ninja down sky scrapers. I loved washing our car windows with a squeegee while my father put on gas. There is power in a squeegee; as you glide it across a soapy glass surface, you feel slightly like a sorcerer… “I command you, be free and shiny.” Perhaps that’s just me. Anyhow, my dreams were dashed when I realized that (A) I had a desperate fear of heights and (B) window washers sometimes fall to their deaths. Though my career took another path, I still know how to use a squeegee better than most ninjas handle a bow staff. Read my latest article to learn how to clean glass using green household ingredients to clean windows, mirrors, and picture frames.

I’m a fan of straight white vinegar in a spray bottle. For cleaning household, and automotive windows. It works great, because the acidic content of the vinegar cuts grease and breaks up water spots.

I am also a fan of black and white newspaper, for drying the windows, the newspaper aids as a “polish” that will leave a nice gloss to the window, and prevent streaks and line from linty cloth.

Note: Do not use “ShamWow!” products on your window lol. They may be good for other applications, but not for windows…I found that the particles would be left on my window…and have to follow up with the newspaper anyways.

I’m a super fan of the squeegee’s at the gas station though, when they have solution in the buckets, that is (damn cheap skates). Just grab a paper towel to wipe off the squeegee of any debris after every “pass” so you aren’t dragging dirt across your windshield.
