Fir vehicle upholstery (and regular cloth furniture too even) the "Tuff Stuff" sold at most auto-parts store (got mine at walmart, automotive department, bottom shelf for 2 dollars and some change) works wonders.

Take a whisk broom or vacuum to the fabric to get the big crumbs/crud off.
Spray on the foaming cleaner (not, be in a well-ventillated area, as this stuff does contain 2-butoxyethanol which is famous among "all purpose cleaners" and is supposidely really bad if/when in close areas).

Let the foam sit on the upholstery for 45-60 seconds, then wipe, or scrub away if necessary, depending on the stain.

Dry up the spot with a clean/white cloth. Reccomend terry cloth, 100% cotton.

And after that, cover those seats :)

For the cloth furniture in the house, I use my carpet cleaner machine, since it has upholstery tools, and just use it as directed by the How to Clean Carpets entry here :)
